Thomas Bernard Oyston
Thomas Oyston (Service No 4092) was born in Dapto, N.S.W.
At enlistment Thomas was single, 18 years old, and worked as a draper. Thomas had served 4 years with the Cadets and 12 months in the CMF. Thomas enlisted soon after his brother William (Service No 729) had been discharged from the AIF after being wounded on Gallipoli.
Thomas embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with 10th Reinforcements, 30th Battalion, on 7th October 1916. The troops arrived in England on 21st November 1916 and Thomas was sent on to France soon after, arriving on 30th December 1916.
On 5th February 1917 he was admitted to hospital with the measles and rejoined his unit on 6th March 1917.
Thomas saw service on the Western Front until the war ended.
He returned to Australia in July 1919 and was discharged on 5th October 1919.
In 1932 he married Violet Percival and they had one child.
Thomas also served in World War 2 (Service No NX76333).
