John Orvad (Service No 3008) was born in Appin, N.S.W. around 1897.

When John enlisted at the age of 18 both his parents were deceased. At this time John was single and worked as a labourer in Wollongong, N.S.W.

He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A68 Anchises with 5th Reinforcements, 31st Battalion on 14th March 1916.  The troops arrived in France on 29th May 1916 and John was transferred to 1st Pioneer Battalion on 19th July 1916.

John saw service on the Western Front until January 1917 when he was admitted to hospital suffering from influenza.  On 19th January 1917 he was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of pneumonia and was not able to return to France until October 1917.

On 26th May 1918 John was killed in action, however there are no details on John's record relating to his death.

John is buried in Le Peuplier Military Cemetery, Caestre, France: Row B, Grave 13.
