Richard Tapp (Service No 9577) was born in Barnsley, England and came to Australia in 1887 with his family.

He married Hannah Brown on 11th April 1900 in Queensland.

At enlistment Richard was 40 years old, worked as a miner, and lived at Corrimal, N.S.W.

He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A71 Nestor with January 1918 Reinforcements, Tunnelling Companies, on 28th February 1918.  The troops arrived in England on 20th April 1918 and Richard joined 2nd Tunnelling Company in France on 20th May 1918.

He saw service on the Western Front as a miner until the end of the war.

He returned to his wife and 3 children in July 1919 and was discharged on 4th October 1919.

Richard died at Bulli in 1921, at the age of 44.
