William Thorman
William Thorman (Service No 2739) was born in Nowra, N.S.W. in 1896.
At enlistment William was single, 20 years old, worked as a miner, and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic with 6th Reinforcements, 45th Battalion on 7th October 1916. The troops arrived in England on 21st November 1916 and William joined 45th Battalion in France on 6th April 1917.
He saw service on the Western Front until he was admitted to hospital on 24th June 1917 after which he was invalided to England.
William was returned to Australia in October 1917 and discharged medically unfit on 2nd February 1918. Medical documents advise he had suffered from epilepsy as a child, as had his parents and siblings.
