Bert Upton (Service No 9941) was born at Windsor, N.S.W.

A enlistment Bert was single, 21 years old, worked as a labourer, and lived at Bulli, N.S.W.  Bert had served 3 years with the Cadets.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A35 Berrima with 13th Reinforcements Field Artillery Brigade 1 on 17th December 1915.  The troops arrived in Egypt and on 19th March Bert was appointed as a Driver.

He arrived in France on 2nd April 1916 and saw service on the Western Front with 105th Howitzer Battery.  

On 3rd March 1918 he was admitted to hospital with a serious injury to his left knee.

Bert was returned to Australia in May 1919 and discharged medically unfit as a result of the knee injury on 29th August 1919.

Bert died in 1964 and is buried at Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney.

Bert's service is commemorated on the Bulli-Woonona War Memorial.
