George Vardy (Service No 2839) was born at Woonona, N.S.W. in 1895.

At enlistment George was single, 21 years old, worked as a miner, and lived at Balgownie, N.S.W.  George had served in the Militia.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with 6th Reinforcements, 20th Battalion, on 2nd November 1915.  After arriving in Egypt he was transferred to 5th Pioneer Battalion on 3rd March 1916.

George arrived in France on 25th June 1916 and served on the Western Front until he was admitted to hospital in France on 5th December 1916 with influenza.  He returned to his unit and on 18th September 1917, where he was promoted to Sergeant.

George was returned to Australia in June 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 12th September 1919.

In 1938 he married Elizabeth Hodgson at Bulli.

George died 3 years later, in 1941.
