Alfred Clive Jerrard
Alfred Jerrard (Service No 54) was born in Bulli, N.S.W.
At enlistment, Alfred was single, 22 years old, worked as a shunter, and lived at Helensburgh, N.S.W.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A24 Benalla with 9 Machine Gun Company on 1st May 1916. The troops arrived in England on 10th July 1916 and Alfred was sent on to France on 21st November 1916.
He saw service on the Western Front and, while not wounded, he did suffer health problems. Alfred was admitted to hospital in France and England 4 times in 1917 and twice in 1918.
He was returned to Australia in March 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 3rd May 1919.
Alfred worked for the NSW Water Conservation Irrigation Commission after the war.
On 8th April 1938 he married Myra James at Benalla, Victoria, and they had one child.
Alfred died in Victoria in 1981.
