Joseph Cady (Service No 5060) was born in London in 1897.  His family came to Australia and settled at Jambaroo.

At enlistment Joseph was single, 20 years old and worked as a farm hand.  Joseph had served 7 months in the British Territorials before coming to Australia.

He embarked from Sydney on SS Makarini with 16th Reinforcements, 4th Battalion, on 1st April 1916.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 1st May 1916 and Joseph finally joined 4th Battalion in Belgium on 19th September 1916.

He saw service on the Western Front until 6th March 1917 when he was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of trench feet.  Joseph was not able to return to his unit until 3rd November 1918.

He returned to Australia as a Lance Corporal in June 1919 and was discharged on 28th August 1919.

In 1920 he married Agnes Young at Bulli, N.S.W. and they moved to Sydney where he died in 1924 aged 27.

Joseph is commemorated on the Jambaroo Anglican Church Roll of Honour.

Joseph's brother James (Service No 2548) also served.
