John Dalrymple-Hay (Service No 704) was born in Sydney.

At enlistment John was single, 26 years old, worked as a forest guard, and lived at Thirroul, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A11 Ascanius with 6th Reinforcements Anzac Cyclist Battalion on 25th October 1916.  The troops arrived in England on 28th December 1916 and John was sent on to France, arriving on 15th May 1917.

He saw service on the Western Front and there are no injuries recorded on his file.  At some point he was promoted to Lance Corporal.  

Before he returned to Australia he was granted leave in England for forestry studies from 1st April 1919 till 1st July 1919.

John returned to Australia in February 1920 and was discharged on 4th April 1920.

In 1921 he married Vera Earl in Sydney but they were divorced in 1945.

John died in Gosford in 1960.
