Edward Darwell (Service No 3476) was born in Victoria around 1890.

At enlistment Edward was single, 27 years old, worked as a labourer, and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W. where he enlisted.

He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A73 Commonwealth with 30th Reinforcements, 1st Light Horse Regiment, on 2nd November 1917.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 21st December 1917 and Edward joined 1st Light Horse Regiment in the field on 16th March 1918.

Edward saw service in the middle east until 26th September 1918 when he was admitted to hospital sick with severe malaria.

He was returned to Australia in March 1919 and discharged on 17th May 1919.

Edward was employed by the council at Gunnedah in N.S.W., and was at work when he suffered a heart attack and died on 24th March 1943.
