Arthur Eade (Service No 4484) was born at Stratham, England around 1894.

At enlistment Arthur was single, 21 years old and worked as a farmer at Gerringong, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A70 Ballarat with 14th Reinforcements, 13th Battalion, on 16th February 1916.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 22nd March 1916 and Arthur was transferred to 54th Battalion on 1st April 1916.  He arrived in France on 27th June 1916 and was sent to Fromelle.

On 5th October 1916 he was admitted to hospital sick and returned to his unit on 24th February 1917.

Athur saw service on the Western Front with 54th Battalion until 28th August 1917 when he transferred to 14th Machine Gun Company.

On 27th September 1917 while in the vicinity of Polygon Wood he was wounded and admitted to hospital for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right knee.  He returned to his unit on 31st December 1917.

When the war ended Arthur was transferred to the Provost Corps on 28th November 1918.  

Arthur was officially discharged in London on 1st April 1920. He was initially listed as an unauthorised absence but his file was amended and his medals issued.

No further information is available and he does not appear to have returned to Australia.
