Frederick William Gammey
Frederick Gammey (Service No 3053) was born at Marshall Mount, N.S.W.
At enlistment Frederick was single, 29 years old, worked as a labourer, and lived at Rosewood via Wagga Wagga, N.S.W.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 7th Reinforcements, 34th Battalion on 24th January 1917. He arrived in England on 27th March 1917 and joined 34th Battalion in France on 10th August 1917.
Frederick saw service on the Western Front until 15th October 1917 when he was wounded at Passchendaele. This must have been a minor wound as he remained on duty.
On 22nd December 1917 Frederick was admitted to hospital in England with trench fever and did not return to his unit until 20th August 1918.
He returned to Australia in June 1919 and was discharged from the AIF.
In 1922 he married Georgina Morley and they had one child.
He died in 1978 and is buried at Rookwood Cemetery, N.S.W.
