Henry Phipps (Service No 2536) was born in Blaina Monmouthshire, England about 1892, and came to Australia sometime after 1911. At the time of enlistment Henry was a single 22 year old engine driver from Bulli.

Henry embarked on HMAT A68 Anchises with 5th Reinforcements, 45th Battalion on 24th August, 1916. He arrived in England on 11th October, 1916 and joined D Company, 45th Battalion in France on 20th December, 1916.

Henry saw service on the Western Front with 54th Battalion and was attached to the Light Railways for a period of time.

On 8th June,1917, Henry was wounded and treated for a groin injury, but returned to his unit on 10th June. On 4th July, 1917, Henry was admitted to hospital in France with trench fever.

He served the rest of the War without incident and was returned to Australia in June,1919 and discharged on 20th July, 1919.

In 1921, Henry married Ivy Evans. Henry died in Yagoona in 1972.
