Walter Munro (Service No 3542) was born in Broadford, Scotland around 1888.

At enlistment Walter was single, 28 years old, worked as a labourer, and lived at Thirroul, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A69 Warialda with Tunnel Company, 4th Headquarters, on 22nd May 1916.  He arrived in England on 18th July 1916 and joined 13th Field Company Engineers in France on 27th July 1916.

Walter saw service on the Western Front and seems to have remained uninjured through the war.

He returned to Australia in May 1919 and was discharged on 19th August 1919.

In 1942 Walter wrote to the Army asking for his medals and discharge papers.  In it he advised he had gone to South Africa in 1920 and returned to Australia in 1929.
