John Oliver Gunn
John Gunn (Service No 2680) was born in Bulli, N.S.W. in 1894.
When John enlisted in Kiama, N.S.W. he was single, 23 years old, worked as a labourer, and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A24 Benalla with 5th Reinforcement, 37th Battalion, on 9th November 1916. The troops arrived in England on 9th January 1917 and John joined 37th Battalion in France on 13th April 1917.
On 27th March 1918 he was admitted to hospital in England sick and operated on for a hernia. He returned to France in August 1918.
On 30th July 1919 John was transferred to the Australian Army Veterinary hospital at Calais in France and served there until the end of the war.
John returned to Australia in June 1919 and was discharged on 28th August 1919.
He died in 1947.
John's brother Reuben also served.
