Reuben Gunn
Reuben Gunn (Service No 2642) was born in Bulli, N.S.W around 1892.
At enlistment Reuben was single, 23 years old, worked as a letter carrier, and lived at Helensburgh, N.S.W. Reuben had served 2 years 6 months in the Cadets.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with 6th Reinforcements, 18th Battalion, on 2nd November 1915. After arriving in Egypt, Reuben was transferred to 3rd Battalion on 14th February 1916, and then to 13th Battalion on 29th March 1916.
Shortly after he arrived in France on 8th June Reuben became ill and was admitted to hospital on 17th June 1916. He was sent to England for treatment and didn't return to 13th Battalion in France until 13th November 1916.
Reuben saw service on the Western Front until he was wounded in action on 4th February 1917. He was admitted to hospital for treatment of severe gun shot wounds to his thigh and buttocks.
He was returned to Australia in September 1917 and after further treatment finally discharged medically unfit on 13th May 1918.
In 1920 he married Minnie O'Neill at Randwick, N.S.W.
Reuben died at Burwood in 1953 and is buried in the Field of Mars Cemetery.
His brother John also served.
