Claude Clifford James (Service No 2882) was born in Dubbo, N.S.W.

At enlistment he was single, 20 years old, worked as a grocers assistant and lived in Wollongong. Claude had also served in the Militia, for 18 months, prior to enlistment.

Claude embarked on HMAT A25 Anglo-Egyptian, with 6th Light Horse Regiment, 20th Reinforcement, on 19th September 1916. He arrived in Egypt, on 24th October 1916 and joined 6th Light Horse Regiment on 16th December 1916.

Claude attended a signal school and served in the Middle East as a signaler. On 1st July 1917, he was admitted to hospital with heart problems, returning to his unit on 21st September 1917.

He returned to Australia in July 1919, and was discharged on 23rd September 1919.

After the War, Claude served with the Citizens Military Forces and he enlisted in World War 2.

On 10th May 1922, Claude married Mabel Williams, in Berry, N.S.W.

Claude died in Canberra, A.C.T. in 1963, age 68 years.
