Gilbert Henderson Murray
Gilbert Murray (Service No 6585) was born in Woonona, N.S.W.
At enlistment Gilbert was single, 24 years old, and worked as a farmer in the Tweed River region of northern N.S.W.
He embarked From Sydney on HMAT A18 Wiltshire with 19th Reinforcements 26th Battalion, on 7th February 1917. The troops arrived in England on 11th April 1917 and Gilbert joined 26th Battalion in France on 9th August 1917.
He served on the Western Front until 29th August 1918 when he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right arm.
Gilbert was returned to Australia in December 1918 and discharged medically unfit on 31st March 1919.
In 1921 he married Emily Smith at Murwillumbah, N.S.W. and they had one child.
Gilbert died in Lismore in 1960.
