John Roebuck (Service No 2123) was born in Corrimal, N.S.W. in 1894.

At enlistment, John was single, 21 years old and worked as a horse driver; he had served in the Cadets and Militia.

He embarked from Sydney on RMS Osterley with 14th Reinforcements, 1st Light Horse Regiment on 15th January 1916.  After arriving in Egypt John was transferred to 4th Pioneer Battalion on 1st March 1916.

On 1st May 1916 he was promoted to Lance Corporal. He arrived in France on 11th June 1916 and saw service on the Western Front. On 12th May 1918 John was transferred to 4th Machine Gun Battalion.

On 26th August 1918 John married Emily Bottom in England.

The couple returned to Australia in July 1919 and he was discharged from the AIF on 7th November 1919.

John died in Bulli in 1963.

He is commemorated on the Methodist Church Roll of Honor, Corrimal.
