James Cummings
James Cummings (Service No 1412) was born in Newcastle On Tyne, England, about 1876.
At enlistment, he was married, 40 years old, worked as a miner and lived in Bulli, N.S.W.
James embarked on HMAT A38 Ulysses, with Mining Corps, 1st Reinforcement, on 20th February 1916.
He arrived in France, on 5th May 1916, and was sent to Belgium, to join the 1st Tunnelling Company. James saw service on the Western Front, and was wounded in action, on 11th August 1918. He received treatment and returned to duty that day. On 25th January 1919, James was promoted to Lance Corporal. In March, he was admitted to hospital with influenza.
James returned to his wife Marion, and their two children, in May 1919. He was discharged on 18th August 1919.
