Ernest John Dando
Ernest Dando (Service No 9363) was born in Woonona, NSW. At the time he enlisted, he was single, 18 year old chemist.
Ernest embarked on HMAT A 26 Armidale with 15th Reinforcements, 1st Field Ambulance on 21st March 1916 from Sydney, NSW. He arrived in Egypt and was sent on to France soon after, arriving on 20th May 1916.
Ernest joined his unit in France on 1st August 1916. On 30th November 1916 he was attached to 2nd Field Artillery as a medic.
Ernest was admitted to hospital sick with influenza on 1st August 1917. In October and again in November 1917 he was admitted to hospital sick suffering from an ulcer.
He was returned to Australia in January 1918 and discharged medically unfit due to his stomach ulcer on 10th April 1918.
In 1919 he married Angela New and they had one child. Angela died in 1923 and he married a second time in 1925, to Gertrude Macinness.
Ernest died in 1958.
