Richard Schofield (Service No 2066) was born in Hurstville in 1890.

At enlistment, Richard was single, 24 years old, worked as an operator, and lived at Bulli, N.S.W.

He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A35 Berrima with 1st Reinforcements, 4th Field Ambulance on 22nd December 1914.  He arrived in Egypt and was sent with the troops to Gallipoli where he arrived on 25th April.  

Richard became ill and was admitted to hospital on 3rd August 1915 but was back on duty on 11th August.  He was re-admitted to hospital on 21st October for one day.

Following evacuation from Gallipoli Richard was admitted to hospital on 9th February 1916 suffering from  pneumonia.

He arrived in France on 8th March 1916. Richard was promoted to Sergeant on 9th July 1916 and placed in charge of a small unit.

On 15th June 1917 he was taking part in sports activities when he fell and broke his leg and was sent to hospital in England for treatment on 19th June.  He returned to his unit on 20th April 1918.

On 1st November 1918 Richard was returned to Australia for 1914 Leave.

He was discharged from the AIF on 25th February 1919.  That same year he married Ethel Downie in Bulli, N.S.W. and they went on to have 2 sons.

Richard died in 1948.
