Thomas Eddy
Thomas Eddy (Service No 2311) was born in St Just, Cornwell, England about 1890.
In 1915, he married Margaret MacKenzie, in Sydney, N.S.W.
At enlistment, Thomas was 26 years old and worked as a ganger, with the Water Board, at Helensburgh, N.S.W.
He embarked on HMAT A30 Borda, with 35th Battalion, 4th Reinforcement, on 17th October 1916. Thomas arrived in England on 28th December 1916, and joined 35th Battalion in France, on 20th March 1917.
On 29th May 1917, he was wounded in action and treated at a hospital in France, for a gun shot wound to his cheek. He returned to duty on 15th June 1917.
Thomas was wounded a second time, in Belgium, on 12th October 1917. He was evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of a severe gun shot wound to his right arm. He did not return to his unit until 15th August 1918.
On 28th August 1918, he was wounded a third time, and was again evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of a shrapnel wound to his elbow.
He was repatriated to Australia, in March 1919, and after further treatment was discharged medically unfit on 19th January 1920.
Thomas died on 13th March 1952, and is commemorated in the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park, Matraville, N.S.W.
