Ernest Parnell Lycett (Service No 5702), was born in Bulli, N.S.W.

At enlistment, he was single, 20 years old, worked as a tinsmith and had served 4 years with the Militia.

Ernest embarked on HMAT A55 Kyarra, with 3rd Battalion, 18th Reinforcement, on 3rd June 1916. He arrived in England on 3rd August 1916, then went to France, arriving on 17th September.

He joined 3rd Battalion, A Company, in Belgium, on 29th September 1916. Ernest saw service with the battalion, until on 7th July 1917, he was admitted to hospital in France, with trench fever. He returned to duty on 11th July 1917.

Ernest was promoted to Lance Corporal on 11th August 1917. On 4th October 1917, whilst fighting in the area of Passchendaele, Belgium, he was wounded in action. He was evacuated to hospital in England, for treatment of bomb wounds to his left arm and right leg.

On 11th April 1918, Ernest was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps, as Acting Corporal, and served with them until the end of the war.

He was returned to Australia in February 1919, and discharged on 26th May 1919.

In 1925, he married Violet Penson, in Sydney, N.S.W. They did not have any children.

Ernest died in 1985.

His brother Harold Lycett (Service No 1577), died of illness, while on active service.
