Details: 

Charles Talbot (Service No 11600) was born in Leek, England.  In 1896 he enlisted in the Navy and was discharged in Sydney in 1905.  On 21st December 1908 he married Ellen Hooper in Sydney.

At enlistment Charles was 35 years old and worked as a driver.  He and Ellen had one child and the family lived in Wollongong.  

He embarked from Sydney on RMS Osterly with 3rd Reinforcements, Divisional Ammunition Column on 15th January 1916.  He arrived in Egypt on 14th February 1916 and was posted to 4th Division Field Artillery.

Charles was sent to France on 25th March 1916 and served on the Western Front as a Gunner.  

On 18th November 1918 Charles was admitted to hospital seriosly ill with influenza which progressed to pneumonia.   He recovered and was returned to Australia in May 1919 and discharged on 23rd August 1919.

Charles returned to Wollongong and lived there with his family there until his death in 1931.

He is buried in Wollongong Cemetery.
