William Edward Walton
William Edward Walton (Service No 610A) was born in Leichhardt, N.S.W. about 1892.
At enlistment, he was single, 24 years old, worked as a wheeler and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W. William listed his father, Robert Walton, of Helensburgh, as his next of kin.
He embarked on RMS Omrah, with Machine Gun Company 1, 10th Reinforcement, on 17th January 1917.
William arrived in England, on 27th March 1917, and after initial hospital admissions for illness, he joined 10th Machine Gun Battalion in France, on 9th November 1917.
On 10th May 1918, William was promoted to Lance Corporal, and soon after, on 26th May 1918, he was wounded in action but the injury is not stated. On 11th November 1918, he was promoted to Corporal.
William was detached to the Australian Burial Corps, on 9th April 1919, and remained in France until he was returned to Australia in October 1919. He was discharged on 17th January 1920.
In 1922, William married Hilda Betts, at Helensburgh, N.SW.
William died in 1969.
