Driver Albert Barker (Service No 1183) was born in Woonona, N.S.W. He enlisted at Rosebury Park Camp on 8 September 1914.

At the time of enlistment, Albert was single, 19 years of age and employed as a farmer. He had previously served with the 37th Infantry for a period of 9 months.

Albert embarked from Sydney, N.S.W. aboard the HMAT A39, Port Macquarie with Infantry Brigade Train 4 on 21 December 1914 travelling to Egypt.

After arrival in February 1915 Albert was sent to Gallipoli.

Albert was wounded in action on 22 May 1915 and evacuated for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right leg. He returned to active duty in Cairo on 22 June 1915.

On 15 August 1915, he was admitted to hospital from Anzac Cove for treatment for a hernia and was sent to St Thomas's No 5 London General Hospital, England on 16 September 1915.

Albert was returned to active duty and was sent to France where he arrived on 22 November 1916 and was transferred to 7th Coy Australian Army Service Corps on 23rd March 1917.

On 10 November 1919 Albert married Marjorie Hyde in London, England.

He was returned to Australia in 20 December 1919, and was discharged from the 2nd Military District on 13 March 1920.

In 1928 Albert remarried Ina Smith at Kogarah, N.S.W.

Albert died in 1957.
