Leslie Edwin Deale
Leslie Deale (Service No 7055) was born in Mudgee, N.S.W on 9 June 1893.
At the time of enlistment Leslie was a married 24 year old miner from Thirroul with 2 children. He had married Eleanor Davies in 1915 in Sydney.
Leslie enlisted at Bulli and embarked on HMAT A71, Nestor with the 19th Battalion, 21st reinforcements on 28th February 1918.
Leslie arrived in England on 20th April 1918. He then traveled to France where he joined the 45th Battalion on 20th August 1918, and saw service on the Western Front.
On 12th September 1918, Leslie was injured and suffering from a bullet wound to his foot, was admitted to hospital.
Leslie returned to Australia in February 1919 and discharged from Service in the Second Military District as medically unfit on 9th September 1919.
Leslie and Eleanor had 7 children during their marriage and were divorced by 1939.
Leslie was admitted to Concord Hospital as a Repatriation patient in 1947.
Leslie died in 1957.
