George Jenkins (Service no 3402) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W.

He married Winifred Chadban in Wollongong in early 1916.

At enlistment George was 22 years old, employed as a fireman and  lived at Corrimal, N.S.W.  He had carried out 3 years service in the C.M.F.  

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 9th Reinforcements, 54th Battalion on 24th January 1917.  The troops arrived in England on 27th March 1917 and George joined 54th Battalion in France on 22nd November 1917.

George saw service on the Western Front until 1st September 1918 when he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right thigh.

He was returned to Australia in June 1919 and discharged frim the AIF on 16th September 1919.
