Thomas Livingstone Haining
Lance Corporal Thomas Haining (Service No 2849) was born in Bulli, N.S.W. about 1887.
At the time of enlistment he was single, 27 years of age, and employed as a coach builder from Bulli, N.S.W. Thomas embarked on HMAT A8, Argyllshire with 1st Battalion, 9th Reinforcements on 30th September 1915.
Thomas was posted to the 1st Battalion on 6 January 1916 and sent to France where he arrived on 28th March 1916.
Thomas was promoted to Lance Corporal on 12th July 1916.
He saw service on the Western Front with 1st Battalion until he was admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital on 2nd November 1916. He returned to his unit on 20th January 1917.
On 9th April 1917, Thomas was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of serious wounds to his left shoulder and right ankle. He was deemed medically unfit for further active service and repatriated back to Australia in February 1918 where he was medically discharged on 9th August 1918.
In 1925, he married Jean O'Donoghue and together they had one child.
In 1931, he was elected to the Penrith Council. In 1949, he married a second time to Lillian Brown at Taree, N.S.W.
Thomas died in 1983 at Cronulla, N.S.W.
