John Jones (Service No 1746) was born in Otford, N.S.W.

At enlistment John was single, 29 years old, worked as a general contractor and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W.  He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A60 Aeneas with 13th Reinforcements, 7th Light Horse Regiment on 20th December 1915 and joined the Light Horse in Egypt on 17th January 1916.

On 1st April 1916 John was transferred to Artillery.  He arrived in France on 13th June 1916 with 37th Battery, 10th Field Artillery Brigade.

John saw service on the Western Front until 1st November 1917 when he was wounded in action and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of severe gun shot wounds to his left shoulder.

He was deemed unfit for further active service and repatriated to Australia in March 1918.  After further treatment in Australia he was discharged medically unfit on 15th October 1918.

After the war he moved to Victoria and in 1921 he married Amelia Hatton.

John married a second time in 1964.

He died in Victoria in 1973.
