Charles Keogh (Service No 1762) was born in Ipswich, Queensland around 1887.

At enlistment Charles was single, 27 years old, and worked as a miner at Helensburgh, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A9 Shropshire with 3rd Battalion, 4th Reinforcements on 17th March 1915. After arriving in Egypt he joined 3rd Battalion, A Company on Gallipoli on 31st May 1915.  The 3rd Battalion were heavily involved in the Lone Pine attack and on 8th August Charles was evacuated to hospital in Malta suffering from shock. He was sent to hospital in England and did not return to his unit until 11th March 1916.

Charles was not in Egypt long and left for France with 3rd Battalion, arriving on 28th March 1916.

On 11th July 1916 he was admitted to hospital sick and his condition deteriorated over the next few days.  Charles died from appendicitis on 21st July 1916.

He is buried in Bailluel Communal Cemetery Extension: Plot II, Row F, Grave 89.

An article in the South Coast Times of 4th August 1916 reports Charles' death and previous employment at the mine at Helensburgh.

Charles' brother, William, also served.
