Henry Maddison
Henry Maddison (Service No 6052) was born in Darlington, Durham, England and baptised on 9th November 1881. In 1912 Henry emigrated to Australia.
At enlistment he was single, 36 years old, worked as a labourer and lived at Corrimal, N.S.W. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A18 Wiltshire with 19th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion on 22nd August 1916.
After arriving in England on 13th October 1916 Henry posted to D Company and joined them in France on 19th January 1917 in the middle of the terrible winter conditions.
On 24th February he was admitted to hospital suffering from Trench Feet and did not return to his unit until 2nd May 1917. The battalion spent most of 1917 fighting in Flanders and returned to the Somme in 1918.
Henry saw service on the Western Front and was returned to Australia in June 1919 and discharged on 28th August 1919.
