Percy Lionel Peaty
Percy Lionel Peaty (Service No 2186), was born in Granville, N.S.W., about 1891.
On 22nd February 1913, he married Mary Haigh, and they had 2 children.
At enlistment, he was 23 years old, worked as a labourer and had served 3 years in the Militia.
On 16th June 1915, Percy embarked on HMAT A63 Karoola, with 1st Battalion, 6th Reinforcement. He arrived in Gallipoli, Turkey, on 6th August 1915, and his first combat experience was at Lone Pine. On 19th October, he was admitted to hospital on Mudros with tonsilitis.
On 1st February 1916, Percy was admitted to hospital in Egypt, and diagnosed with heart problems. He was repatriated to Australia in May 1916, and discharged medically unfit on 25th July 1916.
In 1917, Percy was given a job in Wollongong, due to being a returned man. He later worked as a boilermakers assistant.
In 1919, Percy's wife Mary died. He married Kate Oliver, in Wollongong, N.S.W., in 1929.
Percy died in 1967, and is buried at Unanderra, N.SW.
