Thomas Henry Evans
Thomas Evans (Service No 2689) was born in Narrandera, N.S.W.
At enlistment in Kiama N.S.W., Thomas was single, 19 years old, worked as farmer and lived at Shellharbour, N.S.W. He had served 9 months with the Senior Cadets.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A24 Benalla with 37th Battalion, 5th Reinforcements on 9th November 1916.
After arriving in England on 9th January 1917 Thomas was sent directly to hospital from the ship. He was sent to hospital again on 10th February, then again on 28th February suffering from bronco-pneumonia.
After recovering, Thomas was kept at the training battalion in England. He was posted to A Company, but did not join them.
On 6th January 1918 Thomas injured his knee and was again admitted to hospital.
Thomas was repatriated to Australia in May 1918 and discharged medically unfit with synovitis knee on 26th September 1918.
On 20th December 1922 he married Myrtle Harris at Jamberoo, N.S.W. and raised a family of three children.
Thomas' service is commemorated on the Albion Park Roll of Honor at Centenary Hall, Albion Park, and the Shellharbour Rolls of Honour and Memorial.
