Sylvester Allen (Service No 3559) was born in Sydney in 1898.

At the time of enlistment Sylvester was single, 19 years of age and employed as a motor mechanic in Wollongong, NSW. He had previously served with the Army Cadets and in the 37th Infantry for 18 months.

Sylvester embarked on SS Canberra with the June 1917 Reinforcements on 16th November 1917 for Egypt, arriving on 21 December 1917. He was posted to 1st Anzac Battalion on 21 February 1918 and served in Egypt and the Middle East.

On 10 April 1918, Sylvester was admitted to hospital. After his recovery, Sylvester was transferred to the 6th Light Horse Regiment on 14 November 1918.

He was returned to Australia in July 1919 and discharged on 27 August 1919.

Sylvester married Lillian Cook in 1946 and they moved to Lakemba, NSW in 1968.
