Hugh Curgenven (Service No 33485) was born in Woonona, NSW in 1889. Hugh's family moved to Perth when he was a child.

At the time of his enlistment, Hugh was single, 27 years of age and employed by the postal service in Perth. Hugh had previously served 2 years in the Citizen Military Forces.

Hugh embarked on HMAT A9 - Shropshire from Melbourne with the Field Artillery Reinforcements on 11 May 1917, arriving in England on 19 July 1917.

Hugh was sent to France on 11th September 1919 where he joined the 8th Field Artillery Brigade, 29th Battery on 18th September 1917. He saw service on the Western Front until 21 May 1918 when he was transferred to the Australian Army Postal Corps.

Hugh was returned to Australia in June 1919 and discharged from the 5th Military District on 23 August 1919.

Hugh married Florence Eng and together raised a family in Western Australia. Hugh died in 1975.
