Edgar John Ellis
Edgar John Ellis (Service No 6247), was born in Adelaide, S.A.
At enlistment, he was single, 42 years old, worked as a newsagent and lived in Thirroul, N.S.W. Edgar enlisted in Kiama, N.S.W., and listed his father George, who was living in Western Australia, as his next of kin.
Edgar embarked on HMAT A14 Euripides, with 13th Battalion, 20th Reinforcement, on 9th September 1916, and arrived in England on 26th October 1916. He joined 13th Battalion in France, on 2nd January 1917 and saw service on the Western Front.
On 10th February 1917, Edgar was admitted to hospital with trench feet, returning to his unit on 27th August 1917. He was returned to Australia in November 1917, and discharged medically unfit and over age on 7th February 1918.
On his return, Edgar went to Granville, N.S.W., and became involved with the Granville School of Arts and was a singer with the Methodist Church Choir. He was also the solo vocalist in the Clyde Band.
Egar did not marry and died suddenly in 1943.
