Albert Tregear (Service No 685) was born in Sydney in 1894. The family moved to Wollongong and Albert attended Wollongong Public School and the Methodist Sunday School.

At enlistment Albert was single, 20 years old and worked as a drapers assistant in Wollongong; he had served with the Cadets and 37th Infantry.

He embarked from Sydney for New Guinea on HMAT A35 Berrima with the Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (Tropical Unit)  on 19th August 1914.

Albert returned to Australia in December 1915 and was discharged.  He re-enlisted again in 1916 but was discharged medically unfit soon after.

Albert was a member of the North Wollongong Surf Club.  He died in Sydney in 1937 and is commemorated on the Wollongong War Memorial with his brothers Charles Joseph (Service No 3527) & Alfred Henry (Service No 3144).
