Norman Osborne (Service No 2717) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W.

At enlistment Norman was single, 27 years old, employed as a school teacher and had served in the CMF.  He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A71 Nestor with 30th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement on 9th April 1916.  He arrived in England on 16th June 1916 and was posted to the training battalion in England as acting sergeant.

Norman joined 30th Battalion in France on 20th September 1917 as a corporal.  He saw service on the Western Front until admitted to hospital on 18th October 1917 when he was sent to hospital in England for treatment of a severe knee injury.

Norman was repatriated to Australia in April 1918 and discharged, medically unfit, on 4th July 1918, due to severe internal derangement of the right knee.

Norman returned to teaching after the war.  In 1923 he married Caroline Wallace. The couple did not have children.

Norman died in 1949 and is buried in Northern Suburbs Cemetery, Sydney.
