Jack Owens (Service No 294)was born in Mold, Wales in 1886 and moved to Australia.

At the time of his enlistment, Jack was single, 29 years of age and employed as a miner in Helensburgh, NSW.

Jack embarked on HMAT A40 - Ceramic with the 18th Battalion, A Company on 25 June 1915 and arrived in Egypt late July 1915.

Jack was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey where he was wounded in action on 27 August 1915. Jack was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of shrapnel wounds. Jack rejoined his unit in Egypt on 7 March 1916 in time for the 18th Battalion to be deployed to France.

On 13 October Jack was promoted to Lance Corporal and on 12 December 1916 to Corporal.

On 3 May 1917 Jack was again wounded in action and treated for a gunshot wound to his right knee. He was returned to his unit on 10 May 1917.

On 6 June 1917, Jack was promoted to Sergeant and posted to a Training Battalion in England.

Jack married Edith Dunnico in Bolton, England on 24 June 1917.

Jack returned to France where he was wounded in action on 29 May 1918 and sent to hospital in England for treatment.

Jack returned to his unit on 18 September 1918. Jack returned to Australia in June 1919 and was discharged in the 2nd Military District.

Jack died in Brisbane, Queensland in 1952 and is buried in Lutwyche Cemetery.
