David Owens (Service No 5192) was born in Blackstone, Queensland.

At the time of enlistment in Stanwell Park, NSW with the Waratah March, David was single, 22 years of age and employed as a hairdresser in Clifton, NSW.

He embarked on SS Makarini with 1st Battalion,16th reinforcements on 1 April 1916. David arrived in France on 17 May 1916 and joined 1st Battalion, B Company on 12 June 1916.

David fought in the Battle for Pozieres and was wounded in action between 22 and 25 July 1916.

David was evacuated to hospital for treatment of concusion and a shrapnel wound to his chest. David returned to his unit on 1 October 1916 and served until 9 April 1917 when he was once again wounded in action.

David was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right knee and was repatriated to Australia in July 1917.

David was medically discharged on 13 December 1917 and he returned to Clifton, NSW.

David returned to Queensland in 1919 and died there in 1920. He is buried in Wolfram Cemetery.

David is remembered on the Coalcliff, Scarborough, and Clifton Roll of Honor.
