James Johnson (Service No 8152) was born in Nottingham, England.

At enlistment James was married, 42 years old, worked as a miner and he and his wife, Bertha, lived at Helensburgh, NSW.  

James embarked on SS Indarra from Melbourne with 1917 Tunnel Companies June 1917 Reinforcements on 26th November 1917.  He arrived in England on 2nd February 1918 and joined 2nd Tunnelling Company in France on 24th March 1918.

James saw service on the Western Front until he was returned to Australia in July 1919.  He was discharged from the AIF on 30th October 1919.
