George Richardson (Service No 2516) was born in Wollongong. He and his wife, Sarah Ann, lost a child in late 1914.

He had enlisted and served 41 days in early 1916 but was discharged at his wife Sarah's request.

George enlisted for the 2nd time in Kiama, N.S.W. when he was 33 years old, worked as a miner and lived at Corrimal, N.S.W.  George had served with the Irish Rifles.  He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 45th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement on 24th August 1916 and arrived in England on 11th October 1916.

Geroge joined 45th Battalion in France on 16th January 1917.  He saw service on the Western Front until he was wounded in action at Messines on 7th June 1917. George was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his right arm and returned to his unit on 22nd January 1918.

He was wounded a second time on 8th August 1918 but remained on duty.

Geroge was returned to Australia in June 1919 and discharged on 29th September 1919.

George also saw service during World War II (Service No N278025).

George died in Wollongong in 1957.
