John Fisher (Service No 104) was born in Dunedin, New Zealand and served 3 years with the New Zealand Volunteers before he came to Australia after 1890.  On 2nd January 1893 he married Louisa Hammonds in Helensburgh, N.S.W.

At enlistment John gave his age as 43 - he was in fact 51 years old. John was working as a miner when he enlisted.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A38 Ulysses with 1st Mining Corps, 1st Company on 20th February 1916 and joined the 1st Tunnelling Companies in France on 5th May 1916.

John was admitted to hospital on 23rd May 1916 suffering from rheumatic fever.  He didn't return to the front and was repatriated to Australia in October 1916.  He was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 17th February 1917.

John and Louisa had 7 children and remained in Helensburgh.

John died in 1937.
