Edward Ross (Service No 6796) was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland.  On 16th February 1916 he married Martha George at Bulli, N.S.W.

At enlistment Edward was 23 years old, worked as a wheeler and lived at Thirroul, N.S.W.   He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A17 Port Nicholson with 13th Battalion, 22nd Reinforcement on 8th November 1916.

He arrived in England on 10th January 1917 and joined 13th Battalion in France on 15th March 1917.  Edward took part in the battle for Bullecourt on 11th April 1917 and was reported missing after the battle.  On 17th August 1917 information was received that he was a prisoner-of-war at Limburgh Prisoner of War Camp in Germany.

Edward was repatriated to England on 16th December 1918 and returned to Australia in March 1919 and discharged, medically unfit, from the AIF on 2nd June 1919.

Edward's service is commemorated on the Austinmer War Memorial.
