William Rudd (Service No 12461) was born in Liverpool, England.  In 1908 he married Ethel Woolfrey and the couple had one child.

At enlistment William was 30 years old, worked as a greengrocer and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W.  He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with Army Service Corps Reinforcement the ship first sailed to Melbourne then embarked for overseas on 23rd September 1916.

He arrived in England on 11th October 1916 and served there until he joined 3rd Division Train in France as a driver on 11th December 1917.

Willia was invalided to England on 2nd November 1918 with a sprained ankle.  He was returned to Australia in February 1919 and discharged medically unfit on 23rd June 1919.
