William Rees Davies (Service No 3615) was born in Woonona, N.S.W.

At enlistment, he was single, 21 years old, a student, and had served 3 years in the Sydney University Militia.

William embarked on HMAT A28 Miltiades, with 53rd Battalion, 10th Reinforcement, on 2nd August 1917. He arrived in England on 2nd October 1917, joining 53rd Battalion in France, on 23rd January 1918.

On 17th March 1918, he was wounded in action, when he was affected by mustard gas. William was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment, and returned to France on 7th July 1918, serving until the end of the war. He returned to Australia in July 1919 and was discharged on 14th November 1919.

On 1st October 1921, William married Alma Latham, and they had one child.

William died in Sydney, N.S.W., in 1994 and is buried in Northern Suburbs Cemetery.

He is commemorated on Balgownie War Memorial & the Balgownie Presbyterian Church Honour Roll.

William's brother, Percy (Service No 4170), also served.
