Percy John Davies
Percy John Davies (Service No 4170), was born in Wollongong, N.S.W.
At enlistment he was single, 21 years old, worked as a carter, lived in Balgownie, N.S.W. and had served 4 years with the CMF.
Percy embarked on HMAT A60 Aeneas, with 13th Battalion, 13th Reinforcement, on 20th December 1915. He arrived in France on 8th June 1916, and saw service on the Western Front. Percy had a number of hospital admissions, due to a recurring problem with appendicitis.
Percy met Gertrude Bodingham, a Welsh War Nurse, and they got married in England, on 9th November 1917. He returned to Australia, with Gertrude, in January 1919. Percy was discharged medically unfit, due to appendicitis, on 14th April 1919.
Percy and Gertrude had 3 children.
Percy died in Kiama, N.S.W., in 1977. His service is commemorated on the Balgownie War Memorial & the Balgownie Presbyterian Church Honour Roll.
Percy's brother, William (Service No 3615), also served.
