Charles Arran Gore (Service No 850) was born in Delhi, India to a military family. He arrived in Australia, sometime before 1888.

Charles married Emily Nicholls, in Wagga Wagga, N.S.W. and they were living in Wollongong, N.S.W., when their son, James, was born.

At enlistment he was 50 years old, worked as a labourer and had served 5 years with N.S.W. Artillery.

Charles embarked on SS Te Anau with 4th Tropical Force, F Company, on 20th November 1915. On 13th November 1916, he was promoted to Lance Corporal. Whilst serving in Rabaul, Papua New Guinea, he received word his son, Corporal James Gore (Service No 391), had been killed in action, on 13th June 1917.

On 1st March 1918, Charles was promoted to Corporal.

He was returned to Australia, and discharged medically unfit, on 27th October 1918.

In 1922, Charles died in tragic circumstances. Coroners evidence stated that he lay on railway tracks at Kogarah Station and was hit by a Funeral Train. He had told a witness, the funeral was for his partner.

Charles was taken to hospital, but died later that day.
